I Started with Construction, but My Dream Is to Become a Soldier
Ever since I was young, I have dreamed of becoming a soldier. I have always been interested in the military, but I knew that getting an opportunity to join the army would not be easy.
One day, I talked to my grandmother about my dream. She advised me that if I truly wanted to become a soldier, it would be good to have a professional skill or vocational qualification that could help me access opportunities while also giving me something to rely on in life.
Her advice made me think. That is when I decided to study construction. Honestly, construction was not my first dream, but I saw it as an opportunity to build my skills and prepare myself for the future.
I started learning different construction skills. It was not easy every day, but I kept pushing myself until I completed my training. After finishing, I felt that I could do even more, so I decided to continue my studies and train in domestic electrical installation at VETA.
Now I have more than one vocational skill, and I feel much more confident in myself. I know I still have a long way to go before I achieve my dream of becoming a soldier, but I have learned that you do not always have to start with what you ultimately want to become. Sometimes, you have to start with the opportunity available to you and use it to build yourself.
When I look back at where I started and where I am today, I am proud of how far I have come. My dream is still alive, and I will not give up on it.
I joined construction as a vocational skill, but I came out having built more than just structures I built my confidence, my skills, and my belief that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to.
