Neema Samson (23), a resident of Buswelu in Ilemela District, Mwanza Region, is a strong example of how empowering girls through skills training can transform not only an individual’s life but also the wellbeing of an entire family. As the third child among six siblings raised by a single mother after the loss of their father, Neema faced severe life challenges that led her to become pregnant at a young age and struggle to survive through small-scale businesses such as selling fried cassava and snacks.

In 2025, Neema received an opportunity to attend culinary and hotel management training sponsored by Msichana Tai Organization. The training became a turning point in her life by equipping her with practical skills that enabled her to secure employment and begin building financial independence.

Through her current job, Neema now earns more than TZS 7,000 per day, equivalent to approximately TZS 210,000 per month. This income has enabled her to meet her personal needs, support her family, ensure food security at home, and enroll her five-year-old child in school, where she is able to pay a monthly school fee.

Despite these achievements, Neema still faces the challenge of poor housing conditions, as the house where her mother lives has a leaking roof that becomes worse during the rainy season. One of her greatest dreams is to improve her family’s living conditions by renovating or building a safe house for her mother and eventually starting a large food business.

Neema’s story highlights the importance of investing in vocational and life-skills training for girls and young women as a pathway to economic empowerment, restored hope, and breaking the cycle of poverty within communities.
